We built a rich internet application allowing examiners and teachers to annotate and mark video coursework created in the classroom against a set of assessment objectives.
The brief
Following the success of the first marking/assessment assistance software ‘Red Pen Tool’ (RPT), we were asked to extend the functionality from marking digitally converted documents to enabling the annotation and marking of video material created in the classroom.
The RPT Video needed to read a video stream from a remote media server as well as call a webservice to define the specific marking/assessment criteria for that piece of work. We then needed to build a custom timeline and annotation interface to allow multiple assessors to annotate the video at particular start and end points with notes and audio comments or to indicate the successful completion of particular assessment criteria.
